Household Composition

You can use this service to get information on the likely family structure of the residents of a given household (e.g. single person vs married couple).

Knowing the living circumstances for your customer can provide important insights about their life stages. You can use these insights to design appropriate offers for your existing customers.

This service helps you to develop targeted marketing campaigns. It can help you to:

  • Identify new prospects to target
  • Promote different products and services to customers
  • Develop customer management strategies

How it works

We use a range of data sources to develop the Household Composition, including:

  • Proprietary address databases
  • Historical telephone directories
  • Electoral rolls

In using these databases a series of models makes assumptions of the household composition based the occupants at the time the data was collated. These models output the typical social structure of households.

How to use the service

You will require a valid residential address, postcode and State, with DPID if available. If your database doesn't include DPID's for residential addresses, we can supply software to enable you to append Household Composition for internal use and analysis.

You can receive two different levels of information: Household Composition Group or Household Composition Indicator.

Household Composition Group

This service allocates one of 5 values to each household:

  1. Single: 1 adult male occupant or 1 adult female occupant
  2. Married: 1 male & 1 female occupant with same surname
  3. Couple: 1 male & 1 female occupant with different surname
  4. Extended family: More than 2 adult occupants with 1 or 2 surnames
  5. Group: More than 2 adults.

Cost

The price of appending Household Composition to your database will depend on the volume of records you would like update or whether you would like to license the variable for internal use and analysis. Household Composition can also be purchased as a filter when selecting a target market for specific marketing campaigns.

As a user of this or other data products, particularly those that may involve use or disclosure of personal information, you would need to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and other applicable data protection and privacy legislation.
