You can use our REVs (Register of encumbered vehicles) service to find out if a particular vehicle has been used as security for a loan. (Available in all Australian States except WA and Tas).
Vital information
If a vehicle you buy is security for an existing loan from a credit provider, and the loan is defaulted, the credit provider can legally repossess your vehicle. This service lets you check whether there is any financial encumbrance on the vehicle before you buy, protecting your investment.
How does it work?
You let us know the details of the vehicle or boat, and we will provide you with a REVs certificate. They are available in all States in Australia except WA and Tas.
The register covers:
- Cars
- Trucks
- Motorbikes
- Caravans
- Trailers
- Boats
- Some farm machinery
The certificate will give the following details, if available:
- Interest holder including name and address
- The vehicle or boat recorded on REVS
- Date the interest was recorded on REVS ("interest" means the loan, lease or hire purchase involved)
- Type of interest eg lease or hire purchase
- Whether the vehicle is reported as stolen (from NSW, VIC, SA or Qld only)
- Boats reported as stolen (from NSW only)
- Written-off vehicle alerts (from NSW only)
- Other relevant information, such as NSW registration cancellations for fine defaults.
